Hogweed | Carrot family |
Anthriscus sylvestris | Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) |
Hogweed is a very common sight in many habitats, especially roadsides and grassland.
It was once kept by rural households as a food source for pigs.
It can grow to 10 feet high, especially when it benefits from the runoff from fertilised
arable land, but should not be confused with Giant Hogweed,
which is in excess of 12 feet tall
and has flower umbels up to a foot across.
