Dandelion | Daisy family |
Taraxacum officinale | Asteraceae (Compositae) |
A very successful wild flower, which forms carpets of yellow in parks and grasslands in late spring. The flowers give way to the well-known seed clocks. The name "dandelion" comes from the French "dents-de-lion" (lion's-teeth) due to the jagged leaves. Despite being a showy flower, it is a pest in gardens as it is difficult to eradicate due to its long tap root.
