Marsh Thistle is a tall erect plant, usually with a single main stem. It grows in marshes and damp woods, particularly on acid soils, and can reach a height of 8 feet. The stem is winged and very spiny, as are the leaf rosettes. Its flowers are usually purple, but can also be white.
