False-acacia is a large tree with clusters of hanging pea-shaped white flowers;
these turn into showy brown bean-pods in the autumn.
It is also known as the locust tree, as "locust" used to be an alternative name for beans.
The leaves are long and divided into two rows of leaflets, with vicious spines at the base of each leaf.
