Agrimony | Rose family |
Agrimonia eupatoria | Rosaceae |
Agrimony is a late-summer flowering plant of hedgerows and tall grassland.
It has hooked spines on the calyx surrounding the ripe fruit which attach themselves
to clothing or fur, thus dispersing the seeds far from the parent plant.
The plant yields a yellow dye, and has long been used medicinally as an antiseptic and general tonic
There is another species of Agrimony which looks very similar,
Fragrant Agrimony,
which differs in looks by having a non-grooved fruiting cup, and reflexed spine hooks.
