Sessile Oak Beech family
Quercus petraea Fagaceae

Sessile Oaks grow on poorer soils than the English Oak, and mainly occur in the west of Britain. The main difference between the two species is that the acorns of the Sessile Oak do not have stalks. The leaves are very similar in shape, although those of the Sessile Oak lack the basal lobes (auricles) of the English Oak. The two species can also hybridise.
