Field Maple | Maple family |
Acer campestre | Aceraceae |
Field maple trees can grow up to 20 metres tall, bearing palmate leaves with five blunt lobes.
The small green flowers are held in erect panicles: this distinguishes it from
Sycamore, where the flowers hang in drooping clusters.
In autumn, these become clusters of keys, each having two horizontally-spread wings.
In autumn, the leaves turn golden yellow, or sometimes red.
