Reedmace (Bulrush) | Reedmace (Bulrush) family |
Typha latifolia | Typhaceae |
A common plant of lakes, ponds and slow-moving streams,
Reedmace has a cylindrical "mace" packed with small chocolate-brown flowers,
which are dispersed by the wind when ripe.
There is some confusion over the naming of this plant:
it is often called "Bulrush", but this name also applies to
the Common Club-rush (a type of sedge).
