Water Avens | Rose family |
Geum rivale | Rosaceae |
Water Avens is an orange/pink-flowered perennial of damp shady habitats,
which is common in northern parts of Britain but not in the south.
It has hooks on the ends of its fruits, which attach themselves to clothing or animal fur,
thus enabling the seeds to be dispersed widely.
This species can cross with Wood Avens;
the hybrids exhibit a mixture of the characteristics of the two parents.
