Wood Avens | Rose family |
Geum urbanum | Rosaceae |
Wood Avens is a common yellow-flowered perennial of open woodland and other shady habitats.
It has hooks on the ends of its fruits, which attach themselves to clothing or animal fur,
thus enabling the seeds to be dispersed widely.
This species can cross with Water Avens;
the hybrids exhibit a mixture of the characteristics of the two parents.
